Dennis Chernekoff, PHD

Education and Clinical Approach

Dennis has earned a BA in  Psychology and Biblical Literature, as well as a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy. This education, from insightful clinicians and dedicated professors, at Azusa Pacific University (Azusa, CA), Regent College (Vancouver, B.C. Canada) and Fuller Seminary (Pasadena, CA), forms the foundation for his therapeutic approach.  It includes aspects of Bowen Theory, Imago Therapy, the psychosocial analytic perspective of Karen Horney, and an emphasis on clarity regarding personal values as foundational to self-understanding and development.

For thirty years Dennis has guided individuals, couples and families through personal and relational turmoil to a place of resolve, clarity and purpose.  His interactive, direct approach is appreciated by clients who “don’t want to be in therapy forever.”  Dennis recognizes that people seek therapy for many reasons.  Some require a “short-term” practical solution-oriented approach, while others seek relief from trauma or deeper dynamic issues.

“I want everyone who enters my office to understand their worth and the changes required to live congruently with their values and beliefs. Building this foundation allows individuals to develop into the best version of themselves.  This clinical approach results in meaningful relationships and ultimately the most satisfying life.”

Collateral Experience

In addition, Dennis taught for seven years as an adjunct professor in Azusa Pacific University’s School of Professional Psychology.  He trained therapists in APU’s unique “Integration” coursework: Ethical Foundations of Psychotherapy, Philosophical Foundations of Psychotherapy, Ethical Issues in Sexuality, and Interdisciplinary Seminar in Theology.  This experience allows Dennis to assist individuals and couples for whom faith is important.  He is trained to utilize their spiritual/religious values as a tool for personal and relational development.

Since 2003 he has been a consultant for the Franklin Covey Company facilitating self and leadership development courses in North America. Furthermore, he is a requested keynote speaker for conferences, annual meetings and corporate trainings.  Among his list of facilitation offerings are The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People and Leading at the Speed of Trust.
