Individual Counseling

For 30 years I have assisted individuals in becoming the best possible version of themselves.

I have studied various therapeutic approaches and come to clearly understand that no one wants to be “in counseling” forever, and it is not easy to admit or seek personal life guidance.

As a result, I am solution focused and believe that each person requires individual attention based on their unique situation. There is not a one-size fits all approach to individual counseling.  It is also clear that most personal and relational problems do not occur “overnight”, but have developed over time and as a result of many influences.

For those that have studied psychotherapeutic theories, or are interested, my approach is a combination of Imago Relationship Therapy (H. Hendrix/H. LaKelly Hunt), Bowenian Theory (M. Bowen) and the psychosocial analytic perspective of Karen Horney, with an emphasis on constructing a clear and tangible value system.

I am committed to assisting you in creating a satisfying and meaningful life. If you desire personal growth, a deeper understanding of yourself; or are feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, or discontent. Please contact me.

Counseling individuals who battle Depression or Anxiety

Depression and Anxiety are frequently the two uncomfortable issues that impact day to day function and are the most common motivators for seeking individual counseling.

When depressed, you might find yourself experiencing the following symptoms:

  • apathy,
  • sadness,
  • guilt,
  • lack of energy/focus,
  • irritability.

Or you may experience physical manifestations such as;

  • stomach pains,
  • headaches,
  • diminished libido,
  • lack of appetite or you may binge eat or drink excessively.
  • sleep issues, either excessive sleep or insomnia

On the other hand, anxiety presents itself as: agitated activity, or driven busyness.

  • Internally, It may be experienced much like a turbine spinning
  • Externally, through a constant need to be “doing” something.
  • Compulsivity may drive individuals to “keep moving”; repetitively.
  • A lack of focus on a topic or “job at hand”, or
  • A fixation on a task or issue seemingly unable to “let go” of their concerns.

Physical symptoms are also frequently experienced:

  • headaches,
  • nausea,
  • stomach upset,
  • shaking, sweating,
  • heart racing

There is often a “fear component” associated with both depression & anxiety. These symptoms can be so impactful people often fear that intervention will “make things worse” or identify a serious mental problem. However, symptoms of depression and/or anxiety are manageable.  There is HOPE. There are ways to decrease discomfort and manage symptoms of depression and anxiety.
